Dear parents, thank you for your interest in BB.
We invite you to contact us with any questions you may after reading further.
The BB of NZ is 130 years old and has seen hundreds of thousands of boys having been involved in BB at some point in their lives.
Around 1200 boys and 400 volunteers and helpers currently participate in our successful programmes in about 80 groups across NZ. We make up an international community of over a million members worldwide.
The BB programmes may look to the boys like its just an hour of fun and games each week, but in reality, it’s a programme that’s been specially written to connect them socially and to give them life-skills. The activities are wide and varied and support in helping to develop values, a positive attitude, competency, confidence and a connection with family and community.
Boys are awarded collectable badges for completing a set of activities successfully, giving them a sense of achievement and stimulating the desire to become lifelong contributors to society.
Important to know:
The BB and its respective companies and ICONZ Units take the health and safety of your child very seriously and are committed to working within the framework of the NZ 'Vulnerable Children's Act' in a pre-emptive effort to mitigate potential risk and danger.
Our volunteers are screened, will need references, and be subject to a police clearance certificate before joining the BB. Volunteers go through extensive training to provide a safe and happy environment for your child. Furthermore, we operate on the rule that no child is ever alone with an adult.
We also support the idea that a family plays the most important part in a child's development and we encourage parents to participate in our activities from time to time, like badge ceremonies, social gatherings and excursions.
